For the parent reading this

You're not just looking for another activity.

You want something that changes how your child carries themselves.

You want them to look people in the eye. To hear instruction and follow through. To handle frustration without melting down. To have a place where effort matters more than being naturally athletic. To feel what it's like to earn progress instead of being handed a trophy.

And yes — you want them to know what to do if someone grabs them, pushes them, or tries to intimidate them.

That's why parents bring their kids to Jiu-Jitsu.

Not because they want their child to fight. Because they want their child to become harder to scare, easier to guide, and more confident in their own body.

Section 02

The mat teaches what lectures cannot.

You can tell a child to be confident. You can tell them to focus. You can tell them to calm down.

On the mat, they get to practice it.

  • They learn how to breathe when another student is pressuring them.
  • They learn how to try again after a mistake.
  • They learn how to listen to a coach, work with a partner, and improve one step at a time.
  • They learn that being smaller doesn't mean being helpless.
  • They learn that strength is not the same as control.

And slowly, class by class, they start to believe something different about themselves.

I can do hard things.

That belief is the real win.

Kids Jiu-Jitsu class at The Barracks — ages 7 to 14 training together
The Barracks · Kids class
Section 04 · Who this is for

A kids program built for real children. Not perfect children.

  • Your child doesn't need to be athletic.
  • They don't need prior experience.
  • They don't need to be outgoing.
  • They don't need to want to compete.

They just need a place to start.

At The Barracks, kids are coached through age-appropriate classes that meet them where they are. Some come in excited. Some come in nervous. Some are quiet for the first few classes. Some have big energy and need help learning how to control it.

That's normal. The goal isn't to force every child into the same mold. The goal is to help each child build discipline, confidence, and practical skill through consistent training.

Section 05 · Safety first

A safer way to learn self-defense.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is different from striking-based martial arts. Kids aren't learning to trade punches — they're learning to move, control space, escape bad positions, and use technique instead of force.

Control over force

Classes emphasize control, technique, and respect — not aggression.

Age-appropriate partners

Kids train with same-age partners under direct coach supervision.

Safe training habits

Tap-early culture, structured drills, no ego — from day one.

As a parent, you don't just want your child to learn self-defense. You want them to learn it in a room where safety, respect, and control come first.

Section 09 · Fit check

Is this right for your child?

This is a good fit if your child…

  • Gets nervous trying new things
  • Needs more confidence
  • Has big energy and needs structure
  • Could use more focus and follow-through
  • Wants to learn self-defense
  • Needs a positive physical outlet
  • Does better with coaches who are firm but fair
  • Would benefit from earning progress over time
  • Wants a sport that doesn't require them to be the biggest or strongest kid in the room

This may not be the right fit if…

you want a babysitting activity, instant results, or a room that lets kids do whatever they want. Jiu-Jitsu works because it's structured. Kids improve because they show up, listen, try, make mistakes, and keep going. That's the point.

The real win

Give your child the kind of confidence that follows them off the mat.

There's a moment parents notice.

Their child walks in a little taller. They stop saying “I can't” so quickly. They shake off a mistake faster. They start showing pride in something they earned.

That's what consistent training can do. Not overnight. Not with hype. But through real coaching, real effort, and a room that expects more from them — in the best way.

Section 11 · Parent questions

Frequently asked questions.

What age can my child start?

Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu starts at age 7 and runs through age 14, split into two age-tiered classes — Ages 7-10 and Ages 10-14. Pick the age group on the form and we'll see you on the mat.

Does my child need experience?

No. Many kids start with no martial arts experience at all. The first goal is to help them feel safe, understand the basics, and learn how class works.

Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?

Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, movement, control, and technique — not striking. Kids are coached in a supervised setting with an emphasis on respect, control, and safe training habits.

What should my child wear?

Comfortable athletic clothes are fine for the first class. A t-shirt and shorts or athletic pants without zippers or pockets works well. If a Gi is needed, the team can help.

Does my child have to compete?

No. Some students compete and Precision has had success on the competition scene, but competition is not required. Many families choose Jiu-Jitsu for confidence, focus, self-defense, and personal growth.

What if my child is shy?

That's common. A good kids program shouldn't require a child to be fearless on day one. The goal is to help them take the first step, get comfortable, and build confidence over time.

What if my child has too much energy?

That's also common. Jiu-Jitsu gives kids a structured physical outlet where they have to listen, move, work with a partner, and practice self-control.

How many classes are available?

Precision offers after-school and weekend kids classes during the week. Once you claim the free week, you'll be able to choose a class time that fits your schedule.
